Another bad first match in the FA Cup, going out 4-0 to a very strong Steyning Town.

Wet, light not great.

An outing with new cagoule and a proper try out for the 70-200 which replaced the 100-400 which fell prey to a light fingered Herbert at the end of last season. The thinking is that the extra speed in the glass will improve poor light results and Much of the game Balham will be on the attack, so I won’t need the full range. And if I do, the lower ISO will let me crop in tight.

It sort of worked, though I forgot that it would be harder to hit focus on the smaller targets. I seemed to miss quite a few. Perhaps I just got rusty in the break.

This shows Dare, first team coach, and Larry, left back, picking targets for a throw. The game is not going well, and it’s a tricky decision. I regret leaving the shutter speed so high. Just because I now have glass which lets me freeze raindrops doesn’t mean I should do this all the time. That first shot of Greg showed the rain coming down as stair rods because I had no option.

But in some ways it was a better capture. Nobody sees individual raindrops when you’re watching something else. The idea is to record what it was like being there. So whilst it’s good to be able to freeze the action, a few shots of stair rods would have set the scene.

Many of the shots in the gallery were cropped MUCH tighter.
