The Glorious End Of Autumn

Canon EOS 5D MkIV; f/4; 1/500sec, ISO 125

November 25th, 2023

Away to Colliers Wood, our old landlords.

Mark Palmer is superstitions about always being last man out onto the pitch.

A gorgeous pitch, even at the end of November. And a glorious, golden backdrop (until the sun went down behind the conifers by the A3 at the other end of the pitch).

A rather less glorious match, with far too much long ball from both sides. Scraped an ugly 3-2 win. But lovely light for the first half. (Collier’s Wood start at 2pm.)

The camera is back from the menders after its wetting, who replaced badly corroded contacts under the shutter button. I suspect this was already somewhat corroded when I got it - the exposures were slightly unreliable, but it was the wetting which made it almost unusable. Incidentally Wes at Camera Repair Direct was exemplary. And driving to his office on the Cranleigh airfield was quite an experience. Lovely ‘50s jets covered in mould dotting the road.

We’re now into the dark season, so I’ve given up fantasizing about replacing the 100-400. The 70-200 f/2.8 does a better job capturing the light, but I do tend to spend more time scampering around trying to be close to the action. Not always successfully.

The gallery includes the 2 minute silence for Henry, a long time supporter and volunteer for Colliers Wood.
