Triumph and Disaster

May 2023

Last game of the season.

Some days things just don’t go your way. This is the second time this season that Farnham have pinched a goal in the dying seconds of injury time. And this goal was dubious, having been headed out of the hands of our keeper, who is not best pleased.

Having said which, we’re not bitter: Farnham came out the stronger in the second half and probably deserved the win, clawing back a two goal deficit.

I was in two minds whether to attempt to photograph this evening match under the lights, rushed my prep and lost the first 30 minutes pictures. The final goal was captured rather blurrily, but I was pleased with the one of the immediate aftermath. When I’m good, all my pics will be top notch, but until then I select based on my judgement of the scene, it’s importance and picture quality.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III; f/5; 1/500 sec.; ISO-25600; 300mm

Who could begrudge these fans their glory?

Canon EOS 5D Mark III; f/5.6; 1/500 sec.; ISO-25600; 500mm

In the past, all of these would have been VERY grainy. This one is fairly heavily cropped at ISO-25600, so you don’t expect much. Lightroom’s AI driven denoise function is almost miraculous.
