Why?

April 2023

Good keepers are continually directing the outfield players. They point out, sometimes forcefully, what the kickies need to do and where they are going wrong. But occasionally, the sheer ineptitude is just too much to bear.

(They came back in the second half to beat us 2-1, aided by some simply astonishing refereeing errors. We’re not bitter…)

Good light, so I have no excuse. I’m slowly getting the hang of my camera and 100-400mm lens. This was at 400mm, f/6.3 (one step above wide open at this length, for sharpness), 1/1250 sec. ISO-400. Minimal post processing. I generally use Lightroom’s automatic tone adjustments for everything as a basis for further corrections, and crop and sharpen fairly heavily. This one was pretty much as it came out of the camera, after the auto tone.

(I’m shooting in jpg at the moment for speed, which means that the white balance may need correcting when the clouds are scudding across the sun. )

For some reason I missed focus more than usual that day. Possibly because I didn’t use the warm up to get my eye in.

Here are the rest of the pics for the game:
