The Romans

An overcast day in beautiful, rural Tadley. A visit to the tribal centre of the Atrebates, and the football club confusingly named after their conquerors. When the kids were small, the Palm Sunday Service was an open air walk through the centre of the abandoned settlement in the company of a squad of Roman Army re-enactors. The amphitheatre is quite well preserved: at one point I used to take the kids on bicycles for chariot races. All very Ben Hur!

But this was at the other end of town in the Romans’ rather lovely pitch on top of a hill. They have and still have four games in hand and the draw put them well ahead of us. At the time of writing, we are well above them in the league and they now have two or three games per week for the rest of the season. We still expect and hope that they will overcome the pressure and take their rightful place in the playoffs. (We don’t have the infrastructure to support a campaign at level 8 yet.)

A 1 all draw. Balham dominated the first half but Tadley pulled themselves together, got a soft penalty to equalise and put Balham under real pressure in the second.

Still getting the hang of running round the pitch to be close enough for the 70-200mm F2.8. Not generally shooting wide open, until it gets dark.
